NMSU Finance Management Association shines in competition

The Finance Management Association chapter at New Mexico State University represented their alma mater exceptionally at their first FMA Finance Leaders’ Conference and Competition, getting fifth place overall in the competition. This is the first time NMSU’s FMA chapter has participated in this competition, which is part of the FMA Finance Leaders Conference, which is held every spring in New York City. NMSU Native American Business Student Association fares well at competition

The Native American Business Student Association (NABSA) of New Mexico State University has achieved success at the 17th Annual American Indian Business Leaders (AIBL) National Conference. The national conference featured networking sessions, the Xtreme Entrepreneurship Tour, business forums, educational and motivational speakers and competitions between participating AIBL chapters from across the country. NMSU PGA program director wins his tenth regional award

The director of the New Mexico State University Professional Golfers Association Golf Management™ Program won his tenth regional PGA Horton Smith Educator Award for commitment to educating current and future professional golfers. Pat Gavin has been the program director of the nationally recognized NMSU PGA Golf Management™ Program for 18 years. NMSU was one of the first three universities in the United States to offer a PGA program and ranks among the top five schools in the nation for program enrollment. Read more…

NMSU’s College of Business names Tawney assistant dean for development

Andrea Tawney has been named the assistant dean for development at New Mexico State University’s College of Business. She brings several years of experience in successful development and grant writing work with her to the university. Tawney has eight years of experience as both an administrator and a faculty member while at the University of Arizona and Texas Tech University’s Health Sciences Center. She served as a fundraising and grants consultant for a number of colleges, universities and hospitals. She started in development work as a program coordinator while at the University of Arizona Cancer Center. Read more…

Dallas Fed president speaks at NMSU’s spring 2011 Domenici Institute Forum

Richard Fisher, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas, took part in New Mexico State University’s spring 2011 Domenici Institute Forum. As president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Fisher serves as a member of the Federal Open Market Committee, the Federal Reserve’s principal monetary policymaking group. Fisher is former vice chairman of Kissinger McLarty Associates, a strategic advisory firm chaired by former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. Read more + Video

Clinical Testing Laboratory offers testing for insight on health and genetics

Each day, DNA samples from around the world are screened and tested at New Mexico State University in the Clinical Testing Laboratory in the Arrowhead Research Park. The lab, a division of the General Genetics Corporation in partnership with NMSU, focuses on two tests: one to determine a person’s genetic predisposition for certain health disorders and another to predict the body’s ability to process the clot-preventative medication Plavix. Recently, CTL started validating a genetic screening test for colorblindness through a partnership with Genevolve Vision Diagnostics Inc., an Albuquerque-based company that developed the first-ever genetic test for color vision deficiency.
